 Fall 2009 Newsletter

The SNCA Bi-annual Meeting is Tuesday, October 13th at The Setauket Neighborhood House 8:00pm.

We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every Month at the Setauket Neighborhood House 8pm All Welcome.

Keep Strong’s Neck Pristine:

SNCA urges all residents to pick up trash that has accumulated along roadways. Our community cleanup efforts need to be continual, especially along Dyke Rd. We need to enlist the help of all six SN beach associations in this effort. When you do your individual beach clean-ups please remind everyone to please do their part as they walk and bike the area. We have a lot of "community" land that we all enjoy. Let’s all work to keep it clear of paper and trash.

Civic Issues:

PLEASE SEND IN THE CURRENT NAME & PHONE NUMBER OF THE PRESIDENT OF YOUR BEACH ASSOCIATION. WE ARE IN NEED OF AN UPDATED LIST.

- Private land: When you walk, please take care to respect private property and do not cross or dump debris on privately owned land. If you collect grass clippings, try composting rather than dumping; and remind your neighbors to do the same.

- Building Permits: Residents who are making improvements to their homes that require building permits must post the permit so that it is visible from the road.

- Yard Waste Pickup: Please refer to the TOB calendar.

- Hurricane Preparedness: Please visit Brookhaven.org for a complete 2009 guide to hurricane preparedness.

- Clear Roadways: Instruct your landscapers to park trucks such that they do not block roadways. If your shrubs or trees are encroaching on the roadway, cut them back. Give walkers and cyclists a safe passage area.

- Speeding: Strong’s Neck is loaded with walkers, riders and children. As a result, the entire peninsula is 30 MPH.

- Dogs: Be considerate of your neighbors and pick up after your pets.

- Horses: Please be mindful of horse traffic.

- Deer: The deer population is growing; please drive with caution.

- Please be mindful of your neighbors with regard to noise and light pollution.

Town of Brookhaven:

Historic Signs: The historic marker signs of town landmarks are being installed Spring 2010.

2030 Update: Last year, the Three Village Community Trust began a planning process intended to meet the challenges accompanying growth in our community. The Three Village Conservation Strategy 2030 parallel and will contribute to Brookhaven Town's current major revision of its Master Plan for zoning, land use and infrastructure.  A group of 20+ people from different segments of the community, including local business, service, civic, environmental groups and public sector representatives meet monthly to draft a conservation vision; define community conservation goals and objectives and identify protected properties, including the nature and degree of protection as well as properties that could be targeted for conservation.  A draft report is currently being crafted by the group. Former Strong’s Neck Civic Association President Denise Cronin Kerby is SNCA's representative to the Three Village Strategy for Conservation, 2030.

Please note our membership has changed to coincide with the calendar year. Please send in your annual dues for 2010.
